Mira airboost shower head replacememt
Replacing the shower head on my Mira shower. Unscrewed the original head and there's a thin clear tube inside with a white plastic thing on the end which doesn't fit in my new shower head. It detatches from the tube no problem and I've attached the replacement head (not the Mira brand). Shower seems better than ever - not great water pressure here) - Googling this little tube it looks like it's for an Airboost function. Is it okay to just remove the plastic top from the tube and use my replacement head as normal?

Yes — if that clear tube and white plastic piece are the Mira Airboost air tube/diffuser, removing them will usually disable the Airboost function, but it should not stop a standard 1/2" BSP replacement head from physically working. Mira’s own guidance for the Sport Max says the Air Pipe Diffuser fits in the neck of the handset, and when replacing the original showerhead and hose the air tube/diffuser is meant to be reassembled with the Mira handset. Mira also notes the shower purges the Airboost pump automatically and says spluttering can happen if the air tube or diffuser is not fitted correctly.
So the practical answer is:
If your new non-Mira head has no place for the diffuser, then don’t try to force the diffuser into it. Mira says the diffuser should sit easily in the handset neck, with no force.
Your new head may still run normally as a plain shower head because Mira shower hoses use a standard 1/2" BSP connection.
But you should expect to lose the designed Airboost effect, and there is a chance of spluttering or odd behaviour if the air tube is left disconnected on an Airboost model, because Mira’s troubleshooting specifically points back to the air tube connection and diffuser position.
My advice:
Okay for a temporary workaround: use the replacement head without the diffuser only if the shower runs cleanly with no spluttering, leaking, or fault behaviour.
Best long-term fix: fit the correct Mira Airboost-compatible handset/hose parts for your exact model, especially if it is a Mira Sport Max with Airboost. Genuine Mira Airboost hoses are sold only for showers with the Airboost feature.
So, in plain terms: yes, it will probably work, but not as designed. You are effectively converting it from an Airboost setup to a standard head, and that is why it may feel different.
If you want, send the exact Mira model number or a photo of the shower unit, and I’ll tell you whether that tube should stay in the hose, be capped, or be reinstated with the proper Mira head.
