Clean up leak from waste pipe in sub floor
Hi! So we’ve noticed a funky smell in the kitchen, had a good look and found our sink waste pipe was cracked. Crack is since fixed but we don’t know how long it had been like that for and there is now sludgy that stinks under the suspended floor. It’s on top of concrete, only a couple of my deep and doesn’t extend too far, most of it’s absorbed into the dust/dirt/brick rubbish left over in the floor from the Reno. It’s not deep enough to have affected any joists etc.
Question is what do I do with it or how do I get rid? Do we ride it out and wait for it to dry or do we need to add some chemicals or remove? It’s the smell!
We have to pull up some floor and take out a kitchen unit to get to the leak, so we have very little space to work in

You’ll need to clear the sludge as best as possible, use a neutralizer or disinfectant to eliminate the odour, and ensure everything is thoroughly dried out.
Since space is tight and access is limited, you might need to be creative with tools (like a small hand shovel, long cleaning brushes, or a small vacuum) to get into the corners. If the smell doesn’t go away, you might want to consult a professional to avoid any longer-term issues.
