grinding noise from main supply up to loft storage tank?
Grinding noise in pipes from main supply up to loft storage tank. Does not happen when I open kitchen tap and outside tap which are mains fed. All other taps and cisterns are fed via loft storage. Noise when both hot and cold taps are run also cistern flushed. Noise comes after tap shut off I can hear it grinding throught house as mains water makes its way up to storage in loft. I have turned stop cock half off to reduce flow. No difference. By the way I'm 81 yr old widow living alone and have worked this out myself! Only problem - don't know what is causing it.

Grinding noise in pipes from main supply up to loft storage tank this could possibly caused by sediment build up in the bottom of your tank and once the tank is empty the mains water will try and refill this causing the sediment to be thrown around inside of the tank possibly causing the noise you can hear.
This maybe due to an airlock.
