Will washing machine affect sink drain?

Washing machine installed next to sink by plumber. The sink gurgles a lot while the washer is running and the plughole gets popped out too. Is this normal or has the plumber messed it up? He did say he had to redo the pipes so I hope you'll know what he means but it's not as though he ripped anything out or put new pipes in. By the way, I have nothing against plumbers, I'm not just assuming they messed it up, it's just that these particular ones have caused us issues with the original job that resulted in the washer being moved. Thank you

Ask him to fit an air intake valve.
The water is glugging because as the machine empties, it is pulling the water from the U bend by siphon. Installing an air intake will allow air in but not the smell out.

It's highly recommended to install a standpipe.
