cobble sets on a driveway?

Hi, I'm getting my driveway redone and I really like the cobble sets I've found. all the websites say they are good for driveways but the guy I have chosen to do it says that I shouldn't use them and they wont take the weight of a car. is he right or is it a lot of work and he's trying to put me off?

Absolutely rubbish I've been doing block paving on driveway and ive layed thousands off cobble set on driveway infact ive done complete drives with just sets,

This will all depend on the sub base and what is used also being cobbles would need a more dense compaction rating to allow very little movement also alot of finishing sand will be needed

50mm are for gardens but 100mm thick are perfect for cars. I will happily come and fit the driveway if he won’t because in my opinion, cobbles are not only the most aesthetically pleasing but the best structurally. Roads have been built with cobbles for thousands of years. He is definitely trying to put you off. (For block paving I’m guessing)

I think he trying to get out of it , cobble set laid correctly and withstand a doubledecker bus.

Might be chancing his luck !

Should be fine if sub base done correctly

Cobblestone setts are fine , as long as sun layers done properly, hardcore, whacker Etc , lay on concrete

They will take the weight of a car with no issues if laid correctly :)

Hi there , I do believe it's achievable with the correct foundations and subsequent materials. If done correctly I don't see why not

Depending on the size of the stones you can add plastic grid and all should work perfectly.

Hello, thanks for the question. In short the answer is yes cobble sets can be used for a driveway, they are made from durable materials such as limestone, sandstone or granite, As long as the sub-base meets the correct requirements your good to go, hope this helps.

It's important to consider the advice of the professional you've hired to do the job, as they likely have experience with various materials and their suitability for driveways.

Cobblestones can be a beautiful option for driveways, but their durability and ability to withstand the weight of vehicles can depend on various factors such as the quality of the cobblestones, the installation method, the base preparation, and the traffic load expected.

If your contractor is expressing concerns about the cobble sets not being able to handle the weight of vehicles, it's worth considering their advice. They may have valid reasons based on their experience and expertise. It's possible that they are looking out for your best interests to ensure that you have a driveway that will be durable and long-lasting.

You can ask your contractor for more details on why they recommend against using cobble sets and what alternative options they suggest. It's important to have a clear understanding of the reasons behind their recommendation before making a decision.
