Recess manhole covers
Hi, I’m having a patio installed but have a rectangular manhole that is at a horrible angle in comparison the the way the slabs are being laid. I’m wondering if the Recess cover has to be exactly in line with the hole and therefore will be at an angle to the patio or if we can keep it in line with patio. With the latter there is still plenty of access to the hole but not 100% access as the corners of the hole willl be covered. I should note that although this is in my garden under tho whole it connects with other houses on the road. Why I assumed it might be ok is that the other manholes I have are much smaller circular so access is no worse that those.

Recess can be fitted in line with the flagging aslong as the right procedures have been takin with the old lay out this could mean applying a course of brick cement in the holes it leave there are a few methods to take with this sort of job but it can be done
Manhole cover should sit the same way as the chamber simply for strength and easy access
Recess cover can still be filled with a slab that will blend in with the rest of the patio
The angle of the recess cover shouldn’t be an issue, if you have a drop in recess cover you can put a slab in line inside the recess cover so it isn’t noticeable.
You can make you’re recess manhole in line with the flags just as long as it doesn’t interfere with any access bearly covering corners is fine
I would need to excavate expose the manhole but I assume u shud be able to lift and reset in line with the paving

Hi, would you know if this is a foul or storm manhole and is there a rodding eye near by? This sounds like a lateral manhole and will need access into it so we would not be able to cover up the corners for acces, if its not or is a storm manhole and there is a rodding eye in the drainage run we can put in a recess manhole and square everything back up
Depend on the size of the man hole it can b turned round to suit your needs along as theres sure ground around the area

I would need to view it to say for sure, but from what you describe I would advise to lay a concrete plinth to bring it in line with the slabbing then mortar the edges to ensure a good seal, that will allow you to place the cover at the angle required.
you can put a normal square manhole cover if you add half concrete slab underneath the space and it should be fine
Hi, yes you should leave the manhole where it is as it creates ease of access if anything was to go wrong or you get a blockage, That being said there are way that you could make it look pleasing to the eye. One way is by using recessed/manhole tray where the slabs can be put in and cut to suit so they match the pattern of the patio. Hope this helps.
