Gaps between plasterboards
I am having a refurbishment and the builders have installed double plasterboard in the ceiling. The top layer of the plasterboard has an area where the boards are not joined and there is a gap between them. Is this an issue?

A gap between boards on the top layer is usually fine if:
• It’s small (a few mm)
• The joints in the top layer are offset from the layer underneath
• The whole ceiling will be scrim taped and skim plastered
???? In fact, small gaps are often left deliberately to:
• Allow for slight movement
• Prevent boards pushing against each other and cracking later
As long as the plasterer tapes and skims properly, you’ll never see it.
I’m sure this could easily be rectified before plastering commences

As long as you fill the gaps with bonding or some other base material and scrimmage it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Having a gap between the boards in a double plasterboard ceiling can be an issue, but it's fixable.
I would suggest either filling the gap with Gyproc then tape the joints once the filler is dry. After taping, apply a layer of skim plaster over the filled and taped area. This will create a smooth finish and blend the repaired area with the rest of the ceiling. Once the plaster is dry, lightly sand the area to ensure it's smooth and even. You can then prime and paint the ceiling as desired.
yes it could cause cracking if it isnt taped with scrim tape and if the gap is to big it would need filling with bonding then it can all be 2 coat multi finish top coated
