How to build alcove shelf that can hold a sound system?
Looking to add a shelf to an alcove with a depth of around 51cm and a length of 65cm. Shelf options are seem limited for that depth online so just wondering the best way to go about it? Sound system is around 3-4kg in weight.

Best way of getting it done properly is to get a support on the two sides or get a bracket underneath it one on the right and the left
Go to timber shop they will cut to size any 25 mm board and after fit it or you can get any timber and cut a few pieces join them togheter and fit into place.
Hey 18-22mm mdf is perfect with some 2x1 supports fixed into the wall and some cross supports to stop sagging.
If fitting in an alcove a timber frame with 3 points of contact to a wall, fixed on all 3 sides into the wall then clad in mdf, all gaps filled and sanded ready to be painted, the weight won’t be an issue as long as there’s a good fixing to the walls.
The easiest options are to fit a the shelf is to fit a 20 mm MDF shelf with 2x1 fixed to the wall around the underside to take the wight . i recommend using 3” No 10 screws and plugs but splay off the front edge at 45 degrees to make the 2x1 more aesthetically pleasing
