Replacement Roofs
My next door neighbour terraced villa had to have a replacement roof due too leaks. That is when my troubles started. My roof started to leak from next door and because of the lock down it was nearly a year and a half before a roofer came to look at it By then my whole roof was wet and I decided to get a new roof as well. I did not tell my neighbour it was the fault of her roofers for doing a bad job. She is her 80 and suffers from strokes and is in and out of hospital After my job was done and I paid
my roofers I noticed sun light coming into my side of my roof it was coming in between the space on my side of wall. I informed my roofers and they said it was next doors fault as they used less tiles than standard practice. They did not mention the sub standard work until after they had taking my old roof down and said there would be no problems and that my roof would be watertight and it was not a problem. Todate I have had no water coming in, but I was not happy with the small sunlight coming in through the green membrane.
They are now saying that it was not in my original quote which is correct and that I would have pay the extra money if I was to get it done correctly which thought if I had to pay I would. The are not going to remove my tiles but lifted and refit all next doors tiles My neighbour would not allow this as when I mentioned I would have to this sorted my roof she was not very happy that a small amount of her tiles would have to lifted which I thought would happen. She ok it but said if there was any damage I would have pay. (If she only knew) What I am after is there any other way round this does not involve all her tiles HELP.
Sorry it is so long winded, also she paid cash to her roofers and has no guarantee etc.,

All re roofs should come with a guarantee and no light showing as this means not completely water tight sounds to me like they have not fitted a jointing strip as it is on dividing walk I would ask the roofing firm for an explanation and to fix or approach the trading standards for further advice ..
You shouldn't see daylight on a new roof. Something is untoward and needs investigating.
It seems your neighbour has had some shoddy work done,you need to be careful because if you can see daylight coming through chances are water is coming through even if you don't see any leaks you still may have a slow leak that over time could be causing damage to the timber joists, I would suggest that you have a independent survey carried out.
Well its obvious that her roof was not done to meet properly but this is a civil matter between the 2 of you you will have to come to some point of agreement in order to keep you both happy
There’s not really I thing you could do then re-felting her part off the roof
In my opinion the only way you could rectify it is by lifting next doors tiles there is no other way around it
Next doors tiles should have no effect on your roof. It sounds like the roofers have latted your roof to match the leatting gauge of next doors roof and ran the tiles through to match. If that's the case and next doors has originally been latted out wrong (gauge to big) and th3y have followed that regardless then they are at fault they should have ignored next doors roof and installed bonding gutters between the properties and effectively separated the 2 adjoining roofs. That's if that is what they have done a it difficult to say for sure with no images or measurements.

Yes there is and it should have been done the first time tje gap should not be there
This is a bit off a hard situation you have been left in
From what you are saying I'm guessing they are either slates (gray thin) or small tiles 10x6
Now I'm also guessing that the day light is from where the dividing fire wall is in the loft space ,which is where your roofs join
Now if both yours and your neighbour have had the same type of tiles then some time you end up with what is known as a "cut up" this happens due to where abouts you start with your tiles
as roofs very rarely come as a full tile from left to right
And this is where your roofing
Knowledge and experience come to play
You have to use tiles or tile and halfs mark and cut them not just to fit the gap you have on that row but keeping your overlapping bon for the next course of tiles or slates
As this process is the same just on a different size scale
If your neighbours roofers didn't do this
Then chances are they are not experienced enough or just couldn't care less
Now if they have kept this "cut up "area on your neighbours side of the fire wall chances are you won't get a leak
But your roofers also couldn't be bothered to just put it right whilst they had your roof off if the tiles are identical this wouldn't have been a issue
Pictures would also help me to tell you if it was something that could still be done
But keep your neighbour happy too
I think she should have a good sit down with the neighbour and see what they can arrange between yourself
Unless her tiles inter lock with yours then replacing a new roof is straight forward and can be completed good
