Bathroom Fitter Deposit

Our bathroom fitter is requesting a deposit prior to work start date on 13 September 2021. He is not supplying any of the bathroom furniture. Should we be paying him a deposit?

Advice from 4 local tradespeople

Only if he supplies equipment of requires a small booking fee

If it’s just labour there is no need for a deposit, I only ever charge if material needs buying

No absolutely not.
You only pay 1. The work is near to completion or complete.

Never pay unless your happy !!

Hello, I hope the fitting went well and you are happy with your new bathroom.

It is quite standard for contractors to ask for a deposit on work as they will be filling their time slots with your work. Should you cancel they may be unable to fill that slot with more work and as a result they could end up with no income for that week. A deposit secures theirs and your commitment to the work being done on the agreed date.

I hope this helps explain things.
