Fix door edges (mfc) after trimming
Hi, I had trimmed the door to reduce the width to fit the frame. Trimming has caused mfc to expose on door edge. Not sure how to fix it. Can I use wood filler and sand?

standard wood filler won’t last on MFC, especially on a door edge. It will chip, crack, and look rough very quickly.
Here’s the correct way to deal with it, depending on how good a finish you want.
Why filler alone is a bad idea
MFC (melamine-faced chipboard):
Has no grain strength
Absorbs moisture
Doesn’t hold filler well on sharp edges
Gets knocked constantly on a door edge
Even high-quality filler will:
Break out
Swell
Show through
add a new lipping (proper joinery fix)
This is how doors are made in the first place.
What to do:
Saw the door edge back square and clean
Glue on a solid timber lipping (hardwood ideally, softwood minimum)
6–12 mm thick is usually enough
Clamp or pin while curing
Plane/sand flush
Paint or finish

Passes muster long-term
