Plaster ceiling crack

There is a crack in the plaster in the ceiling below the loft. Not sagging but looks like a joist is loose. Is this a sign of structural issues? house is 1950 and hasn't been updated in anyway since. Walls/ceilings are all artex.

Because of the age of the house and the fact there hasn’t been any work done indicates to me that the ceilings are most likely lath and plaster, because your ceiling joists are timber over time they will swell and subtract anyway causing movement over the years added with moisture damage especially if the loft isn’t insulated will weaken the ceiling and then crack. Best advice is to take down existing ceiling, strengthen joists and add noggins to reduce movement then plasterboard with 12.5mm board, insulate loft and re plaster. If your using the loft for storage then it’s always best to board out your loft to spread the weight to avoid sagging and accidental damage to ceilings to avoid costly repairs.

Its hard to completely diagnose without seeing whats going on by picture / eye. however it could be a tail joist that has been nailed through joists thats had weight on or been stood on. It could be where a joist has rotted on the wall plate and theres movement there. In the loft is the first place i would look.
