As you’re using ‘large format’ porcelain tiles, you will need to consider their weight….is your wall or floor substrate strong enough to take them….you will then need to ‘tank’ (waterproof) the substrate in line with BS5385 requirements….porcelain is almost impervious to water, so you will need a strong S2 cementitious adhesive…..ensure you use a high quantity grout and silicone sealer…..good luck!!????????????

If you centre the shower tray and form a fall to the drain will be fine , but will need the cut the tiles to suit

For your 2 sq m walk-through shower, you want to make sure it’s properly waterproofed. Beneath your tiles you need to add a waterproofing membrane. Use large format tile adhesive for better coverage and make sure it’s waterproof for bathrooms , and consider adding a linear drain for efficient water flow. To finish, use silicone caulk in corners and edges to prevent water damage.

It sounds like you’re planning to use two large tiles (1200mm x 600mm each) to cover an area of 2 square meters in a walk-through shower. Here are a few recommendations for making the best use of those tiles and ensuring the shower area looks professional and functions well:

1. Tile Layout and Cutting
• Consider Tile Orientation: With large format tiles like 1200mm x 600mm, the orientation of the tiles can significantly impact the look of your shower. Consider laying them:
• Vertically: This will make the space feel taller and more elongated, which can work well in smaller or standard-sized bathrooms.
• Horizontally: This can give a more expansive, modern look, though it might make the space feel more enclosed if the shower area is narrow.
• Minimize Cutting: Since you only have 2 tiles, you’ll want to avoid excessive cutting to ensure both tiles fit within your 2-square-meter area. If you’re placing the tiles in a rectangle shape (for example, covering a rectangular shower wall), you may be able to fit them with minimal cuts. Use the tiles as close to their full size as possible.

1. Tile Layout: Consider a brick or staggered pattern for a modern, appealing look, which can also make installation easier. If you want a more seamless look, a straight lay pattern works as well.

2. Waterproofing: Ensure that the substrate (wall or floor) is properly waterproofed before tiling. Use a waterproofing membrane (e.g., Schluter Kerdi or Mapei Mapeguard) on the walls and floor to prevent moisture issues.

3. Grout: For a shower, use epoxy grout or a mould-resistant grout to prevent staining and keep your grout lines clean.

4. Sealing: Porcelain tiles are typically low maintenance and don’t need sealing, but if you're using large grout joints, consider sealing the grout to prevent moisture buildup.

5. Shower Tray & Drainage: Ensure your shower tray has good drainage, and the slope of the floor is correct (typically around 1-2%) to direct water towards the drain.

By following these steps, you should get a long-lasting, professional finish for your walk-through shower.

Tile Cutting and Angling: Since you're not using a shower tray, it's important to cut the tiles and angle them towards the drain. This helps direct the water flow towards the drain, preventing water from pooling in the shower area. Stagnant water can be a safety hazard, as it can cause slips and falls.

Non-Slip Tiles: Make sure the tiles you use are non-slip. Porcelain tiles are a good choice, but they should have a textured surface or a non-slip rating to ensure safety in the shower.

Waterproofing: Proper waterproofing is essential to prevent water damage. Use a waterproof membrane under the tiles to create a barrier that stops water from seeping through. Ensure that all seams and joints are sealed to maintain the integrity of the waterproofing.

Drainage System: Consider installing a linear drain. Linear drains are long and narrow, making them easier to integrate with large tiles. They provide efficient water drainage and can be positioned along one side of the shower area.

Grout and Sealant: Use high-quality grout and sealant to fill the gaps between the tiles. This prevents water from seeping through the gaps and causing damage to the underlying structure.
