Is a damp survey required?

I have damp in my hallway from what appears to be my neighbour’s blocked drain causing water ingress. The blocked drain was resolved at the beginning of the year and there hasn’t been further issues with damp. Previously there have been damp in other rooms, mainly front facing. I live a mile from the coast and we are prone to wind-driven rain. I think that my exterior rendering has seen better days. I am wondering whether to get a damp survey before contacting a company about a quote for exterior rendering repair.

You could look for a company that deal with structural waterproofing and they should be able to tell you if the render is an issue and if needs addressing and also give you a free quote for any required works.

Yes damp survey would notify if any damp could be treated prevented

I would always get a survey even though it sounds like penetrating damp.

Yes needs a damp survey

I would personally mate. I know bits about it but not too much tbh. As the problem is in the wall or under floor, it's usually hidden from the eye. So a professional opinion is necessary & on top of that. You can compare it to a 2nd quote/opinion. & hopefully avoid meeting cowboys. Hope you get it sorted

Always a good idea to get independent damp survey before committing to works

yes get quotes and get it checked soon as possible long you leave it worser it will get

Based on the information provided, it may be advisable to consider a damp survey before proceeding with exterior rendering repair. Since there have been previous issues with damp in other rooms and the damp in your hallway is possibly related to your neighbor's blocked drain, it's important to identify the source and extent of any damp problems before addressing the rendering.

A damp survey can help in determining the current condition of your property, identifying any ongoing issues, and assessing the potential need for damp treatment or repairs. Additionally, given the coastal location and exposure to wind-driven rain, a professional survey can provide valuable insights into the overall moisture management of the property.

After the survey, you can then consider contacting HomeFix Roofing Ltd for a quote on exterior rendering repairs, along with any necessary damp treatment or preventive measures suggested from the survey. This approach can help ensure that the rendering repairs are carried out effectively and in consideration of potential damp issues.

A damp survey is always a good call when there is a number of potential red flags regards damp.
Try to use an independant survey company, rather then a survey & works remedy company as you may get a biased/impartial survey.
