Sealing end panels
Fitting a new utility room and have had to cut the cupboard end panels. Is it ok to fit them cut end down to the floor, and if so do they need sealing?

It is absolutely fine to cut them and I would recommend sealing them. Seal the cut end with a thin layer of pva. This will stop moisture from getting into the boards and damaging your panel
Foil tape [as used for pipe lagging] is very tough easy way to seal the bottom of panel, cut with circular saw and sand smooth, apply tape starting on exposed outside edge and about 4-5mm up, wrap around to rear. Once installed seal with silicon to floor [this will hide thin edge of exposed
Yes that fine, but to stop the wood from soaking up any liquids coat the trimmed area with some pvc wood glue
It depends on the floor but we try not to cut end panels at the bottom if we have to then seal with waterproof glue and silicone all around the panel
If the floor and wall is 100% bang on level and flat then the cut will be ok at the top but if the floor is out of level which they usually are then the panel will need scribing to the floor so it will need cutting and sealing.
Usually all finished woodwork is sealed for greater looks and in some occasions using silicone to waterproof
If put the cut end on the floor you will defiantly need sealing other wise you create swelling over time
Would be better to have the exposed edge facing up but if not possible a bead of silicone round the base of the end panel will suffice
Yea u can put them cut end to the floor but I will need to seal them with pva to stop them taking in water if there a leak
I would not recommend this but if needs must i would edge the cut edge and seal in with some heavy duty sealant (waterproof)
With the end panels you should cut the top so when work tops are fitting you don’t see the ruff edge. If you cut the bottom you run the risk of damaging them very quickly
Hi, yes, the cut edge must be sealed with either water proof pva or any other water proof sealant.
I would not put a cut edge to the floor
But it u have to I would ether invest in some iron on edging strips the same colour as the kitchen
Then with some clear silicone put a bead of it around the shown edge
Most end panels are oversized to allow scribing to a floor and or wall I would seal them if you can, just to stop any risk of having to replace if an appliance goes wrong
needs sealing ,otherwise it will explode of any water ingress
